Carhitmephobia

I was supposed to take this girl out tonight but she didnt make it from this other city from accross the straight. So I ended tagging along with a friend and his girl for the night, besides it was the guy who asked me to join them so it wasnt much of an intrussion to their date.

On our way to pick up his girl, we came accross road detours that diverted us to the other side of the road because of some major road accident. Some kids on cars tried to pull off a fast and the furious racing stunt on the road but unfortunately one of the cars lost its balance and ran aground unto the opposing lane, where a speeding container truck smashed the front left side of this car. it left the front seat passenger being taken on a stretcher to the hospital with his legs missing.

I always have this recent recurring thought that my own life would end on a road accident. This crazy thought came up to me a couple of months ago. Im fond of walking and I always trust on my legs to take me from point A to point B. And everytime I cross the road when I walk, this thought that some car on either lane would smash unto me. Hell Im scared that I wouldn't die that fast that I might spend another 15 minutes of my life lying on the road trying to get a glimpse of all my appendages that I have splattered all over the road and with all the pain coming from the missing ends.

"Fear of loss is the path to the dark side"

The three of us sat in this table up against the wall outside this bar, I may be claustrophobic at times but it was a great table because one thing, I had a stool for a seat and I could turn as I much as I can in an already confined place. And another thing was because none of the saturday night crowds would pay attention to a guy in plain shirt and jeans sitting next to the wall outisde the bar. I only had two beers and left for home, it wasnt because I began thinking about my own upcoming car accident, I wasn't just in the mood to drink

My younger brother also went out for the night to catch this concert of this mymp band, never heard of them though, must be some of their generation's music.

Longest Tupig

My cousin took this photograph of me nine years ago. He lost his center of focus that he missed the letter G in the header behind me which was supposed to read guinness. I think he just wanted to include ye olde union jack on my right in the photograph. This is the guinness museum of world records, and this photograph was taken nearly a decade ago, which means I dont have a clear recollection of what I saw inside the museum.

I did remember I seeing inside the museum wax figures of freaks on world record, the tallest man, shortest man, biggest mouth, longest nose and other freaks with extreme attributes. One freak caught my fancy, it was this japanese guy who lived for a whooping hundred twenty years. It wasnt his longetivity that amazed me, I've heard stories of other rip van winkles who had long walks with father time, but it was this small panel behind his wax figure exhibit. It was a collection of events in history that this poor guy saw in his lifetime: world war 1, world war 2, the atomic bomb, the vietnam war, the korean war, the shanghai massacre, man on the moon, the cold war nuclear arms race... It must be sick to see all of these in one lifetime, but hey it could have been the key to his long life.

My cousin on the other hand can recall none of the museum's archive on display, except for this scottish guy on kilts playing his bagpipe outside the museum, he wasnt made up of wax though. That guy was probably there for entertainment and not for breaking any records or eardrums yet. My cousin was so fascinated with the sound of that bagpipe that time because he hadn't recovered from this scottish fever he caught after watching Gibson's Braveheart. And probably explains the union jack in my picture.

Anyway, it was an article in the local newspaper today that rang a bell in my head to recall about this guinness museum. That article is about an attempt of some of my countrymen up north to put their town as a guiness record breaker too, they are attempting to make the longest tupig in the world.

By the way, what the hell is a tupig?
  • Three pigs less one
  • Tupac rip off
  • Too Big said in a chinese accent

Beats me. Tupig is some local rice cake indigenous to bakeries up north of our country. I bet you didnt figure that one out.

This tupig in bizarre proportions was prepared weeks after another local pastry down south took more headlines by storm. It seemed as if this longest tupig was a promotional campaign against that other rival pastry rather than a shot to be in the guinness world records. This other pastry was the cassava cake, and it wasnt baked as exagerating as this tupig but one lady accidentally baked her cassava cake with toxins, and she single-handedly wiped out a lot of school kids with her fatal pastry in just a morning of vending. And I hope they dont put the cassava cake lady on world record too.

The Pista

The Pista is a local term used for a certain holiday in a year when the rural folks in our country pay homage to a certain christian saint whom they believe watches over their little town, their crops, the rainclouds, their dog, their chickens and all other things supernatural.

To each rural town, there is a certain saint who watches over it, and to each of the multitude of christian saints, a day to his own. Designating a saint unto a town was the idea of our spanish colonizers centuries ago, perhaps for collectively establishing the local's identity as a town, or have the locals comprehend to the diversity of holiness bestowed by christianity to mortals.

A pista is traditionally a thanksgiving celebration to these christian saints, along with annual homecomings, reunions, rural and inter-town socializing and a grand banquet in each house, for guests arriving on an assumed invitation because of the pista. It has become the prime holiday for every rural folk, beating other red letter days of the calendar even christmas. And that annual attendance to these pista is very crucial to the lives of these people, the pista has become an implied personal holiday to a rural folk and in itself an explanation for a valid excuse to be absent from work, regardless of any urgency and even if it would demerit them with negligence or irresponsiblility, just to attend to their pista.

I dont give a damn about tradition or the pista pilgrimage these people take every year to their rural town. But most of these christian saints have found their pista unto the month of May, and with it being an assumed legal holiday, our business is always in short of labor during the days of May, with dozens of our employees joining the annual flight of their lives to their pista.

Less employees means more work for me, screw the pista.
