Thailand Open
I woke up 5am wednesday morning and took the first flight to manila, I was leaving for bangkok at around 2pm. When I landed in manila I had a couple more hours to spare so I had breakfast at starbucks in rockwell, it was like only around 9am and the place was full of these young phonies having their expensive morning coffee before their work, i just then killed time in this new mall they called market-market which wasn't far from there, i went back to the airport around noon to catch my other flight.
I landed in thailand around 4pm, the hotel where I was checking in sent a van to pick me up at the airport, the last time they used a sleek black car to fetch me up. I wasn't as great but anyway this time the driver paid for the tollgate because the last one talked a hell lot of gibberish to me on the way out of the airport and pointed to the tollgate and I reckon he wanted me to pay for it. I spent the remaining of the day walking around and ended up having supper in this small diner in the backalleys I got lost in, the place wasn’t too inviting, they had bathroom tiles on the walls and wooden desks and old chopsticks but I was after the food and the fun of having to eat like everybody else there (the diner was crowded). They can't talk good english in thailand so it is always a hassle eating in these places when I have to decipher the menu and do sign talking to the waiter. Worse I had a mouth sore on my lips and I couldn’t taste the food very well so I had to go to a drugstore after and get me some oral antiseptic, I didn’t bother trying to talk oral antiseptic to the pharmacist since I felt she might just have a hard time figuring out english. I scanned the shelves where they had something like listermint when this arabian guy went inside, he was sort of conscious of the people around, he went to the old pharmacist and whispered something, the pharmacist looked puzzled and he whispered and again and she gave him the same look till he began to whisper louder til I heard him saying viagra, poor schlep he looked that he was just in his thirties. He didn’t buy his pills and I reckon that either he just wanted to proclaim his dysfunction or their prices are higher than the average. I think he wouldn’t probably embarrass himself on purpose, so I had to go find some other cheaper drugstore.
I’m not a tennis fan but when I was there, The thailand tennis open was starting out. I gave me sort of a fascination for the tournament to know that roger federer and andy roddick are both on the event. I must have spent the nights having some beer in this hotel where the players stayed hoping to snag an autograph, and I got one from some player whom I wasn’t familiar with, he was in a sporty attire and had a racquet pack on his shoulders and he was crowded with people asking for autographs, he had to be famous but i didn't know who the hell he was but I at least I got something for being there. I watched the final game between federer and roddick on cable tv, federer won over roddick and sometimes I wished I should have taken an autograph from federer instead.
