Hibakushas from the Manhattan Project

Hoping to end the pacific front of world war 2 quickly, Truman ordered the atomic bomb to be dropped on Hiroshima, Japan. It happened on this day, 60 years ago.

In an instant it became dark as night, Hiroshima on that day. Flames shooting up from wrecked houses as if to illuminate this darkness. Amidst this, children aimlessly wandering about, groaning with pain, their burned faces twitching and bloated like balloons. An old man, skin flaking off like the skin of a potato, trying to get away on weak, unsteady legs, praying as he went. A man frantically calling out the names of his wife and children, both hands to the forehead from which blood trickled down.

On a lighter side, Ariel dropped by our office today. Ariel is a good friend from college, and incidentally too, his last name is “imperial” which is very synonymous with the Japanese Imperial Army of world war 2 which what the atomic bomb was used to force their surrender exactly 60 years ago. Ariel worked in dumaguete city (read almost like the devil saying “Doomed, I’ll get thee!”) and I was surprised to see him pop up in Iloilo city today. He told me he got reassigned here after one of his fellow field agents here was caught dead with a heart attack. Ariel’s reassignment came swift after he got in the news himself in dumaguete city when he drove his car off a bridge. He wasn’t drunk and lucky bastard was able to come up to my office in one piece.
